On the moonbase, each scientist is named after a different flower. This choice by the author may reflect on Mokuren's ability to communicate with plants and humans alike, as she was the binding force that kept peace on the base through adversity. Shion's name translates as "Purple Aster". The Earth names of the reincarnates are also flowers or make reference to plants, with the exception of "Rin". Rin's name can be translated as "Circle, Loop, or Ring", as it is sometimes Anglicized. His name alludes to the circle of karma that continuously affects the seven scientists to their actions. It is also true that Rin is a central character in the series, around whom many events occur, and that he has a desire to reconcile the past life with the current, thereby bringing his fate full circle. Rin's name is often followed by the honorific "-kun" as well as "-chan". -Kun is similar to the honorific -san, but it is only used for males.
